About Dr Roxie Becker
Dr Becker is a certified Lifestyle Medicine physician dedicated to helping patients prevent, manage, and reverse chronic disease through evidence-based lifestyle interventions. She graduated cum laude from the University of Cape Town, demonstrating early academic excellence, and went on to complete her internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital—the largest hospital in Africa—followed by community service at Ellisras District Hospital, a rural district hospital in Limpopo. This combination of high-volume tertiary care and resource-limited clinical exposure has given her a well-rounded, practical understanding of patient care across diverse settings.
She is board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine through the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine and holds an additional certification in plant-based nutrition from the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr Becker has also contributed to the plant-based nutrition research, having spent two years in Washington D.C., at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. During this time, she lectured medical students on the critical role of nutrition in disease prevention and management, participated in clinical research focused on plant-based nutrition, and led online diabetes support groups aimed at empowering patients to take control of their health.
In addition to her clinical and academic work, Dr Becker has held leadership roles within the profession. She has served on the board of the South African Lifestyle Medicine Association and currently sits on the editorial board of the British Medical Journal, Lifestyle Medicine Advances, reflecting her ongoing involvement in shaping the future of lifestyle medicine.
Dr Becker is deeply passionate about guiding individuals toward meaningful, sustainable lifestyle change. Her approach is grounded in science, compassion, and partnership—working alongside her patients to address root causes rather than only treating symptoms. She believes that better health enables a better life, and is committed to helping her patients achieve both.
